If you like sports and LOVE to socialize, then the Greater Lansing Sport & Social Club is a perfect way to meet tons of other people just like you in the Greater Lansing area!
The Greater Lansing Sports and Social Club (GLSSC) is a social club and network connecting hundreds of young professionals (21+) in the Lansing area through sports and booze. With a variety of leagues, and ‘ins’ at every bar, it’s a fantastic way to stay active, meet new people, and check out cool new spots.
How It Works
One night a week, you and your team meet up to play one of many sports offered (kickball, dodgeball, flag football, volleyball and more) and then get together after the game for drinks at a sponsored bar. It’s a fun, non-competitive, no judging zone for adults that just want to have fun, play some sports and meet people. You can sign up as an individual, a couple, with a few friends or a whole team. If you sign up with friends or a spouse you will be kept on the same team.
Where They Are
Right here in Lansing. They also have partners in Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, and Kalamazoo.
Their Story
Josh Sherry, the Director of League Operations, here in Lansing says the club came to Lansing because they recognized the need for it. “None of the kids want to stay here, and we need to keep them here.” Everyone wants to see Lansing grow, and to do that, we need to keep people in the area.
How They Make Money
The GLSSC depends on many local businesses to keep running. They use local complexes, rent space from the Lansing Parks and Recreation Department, and look to local bars to host 100+ folks after every game. By guaranteeing business at these bars (they try to stick to mom and pop places), they are putting money back into the local economy.
They also rely on sponsorships and registration fees.
Other Stuff
The GLSSC takes networking to the extreme in many ways. Besides sports and drinking they also throw awards parties at the end of each season. These parties can have themes ranging from “Ugly Sweater” to “Dress to Impress.” They are all about keeping things fun, laid back, and goofy.
