The Problem Being Solved

UnoDeuce strives to provide high quality, low-cost media and production solutions for organizations that may feel they can’t afford to put a lot into their marketing budget.

Where the Idea Came From

Paul was working as the Director of Video Productions for a non-profit video company in Seattle and was impressed by what they were doing.  “I loved the way they worked with clients and took a storytelling perspective with each project.”

He saw it as an effective promotional tool and  decided he wanted to use that style to build a company.

Opportunities and Worries

Paul is excited about the introduction of video as commonplace in the marketing industry. “It allows us to reach a lot more people.” But, what worries him, is the other side of that coin. “Since video IS becoming more commonplace,” he says, “and technology is becoming more democratized, there are tools out there that are not being used correctly.”

Target Customer

The primary target market of UnoDeuce are non-profit organizations and Greater LANSING based small businesses.

Biggest Challenge

Paul says their biggest challenge has been educating the potential client on the power and cost-effectiveness of video.

But, they look to meet this challenge by  meeting customers where they are. ” We learn about their organizations and crafting a message for them from there.”

Surprises

Paul has been surprised to see just how creative his customers are. “They may not be artists per se, but they have great vision.”

He is also constantly surprised by the technology surrounding video production, how commonplace it has become and how well it integrates into the community.

Funding

Paul has raised money in the past and plans on raising more. “The process is scary but exhilarating,” he says. “There are a lot of peaks and valleys which is the way it’s supposed to be, but stick to your guns and find someone to help you organize yourself and keep on going (through the valleys).”

The Future

In one year, Paul would like to hire more leadership and increase sales dramatically. In three years, “I would like to have more creatives on staff so we can have our different areas more focused and in 5 years, I would like to have our own building.”

Advice

Paul has 3 pieces of advice:

  1. Don’t take no as final. Where one door shuts, look for another door.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  There will always be things you don’t know, but there will always be people waiting for you to ask for help. People who want to help you.
  3. Expect to work. A lot. This is a path where you show your passion, so the hours will be long as you are building. But, this is your baby. However, don’t break your hours down to an hourly wage….then you’ll be crying like a baby.
